Personal Statement:
Comedy has been a part of my life; since I was little, I used to always use funny facial expressions to make people laugh. I still use funny facial expressions and they still make people laugh! Every now and then I crack a few jokes. Comedy, in general is my passion because the only way I could be funny would be to be inspired by something.
Mike Myers is a hilarious actor and has inspired me in every single one of his movies. Mike Myers has been acting for a long time and has gotten famous by his humor, his acting skills, and his personality in my opinion. He has won an Emmy and 22 other wins and 29 nominations!
My global issue is how children in hospitals have been so depressed and are scared of what will happen. I want to make a change and let them be happy. I’d like to bring a little bit of happiness into the lives of sick children. I recreating the book “Tomas” into a movie that makes children laugh because laughter helps depression and relieves pain. I thought “Tomas” would be the perfect script because it's funny and written by children.
Anne-Sophie and I wrote the book “Tomas”. It's a small yet hilarious book about a child who is very dumb and hasn't gone through school yet. Tomas has been home-schooled for the last seven years. When Tomas has to go back to school because of his yet-to-come twin siblings, he gets put back to kindergarten because of his stupidity.
Okmeydan is the hospital I chose to present my movie because my mom was the charity coordinator for IWI and suggested this hospital. Okmeydan is a public hospital and has a lot of specialties. I chose leukemia because it is very depressing to have leukemia and the children need someone to cheer them up.
Leukemia is cancer in the blood, which causes an abnormal increase of white blood cells in your bone marrow. Unlike other cancers it does not make lump tumors on your skin. Mostly children get diagnosed with leukemia but more adults have it. It’s more common in men then women. There are almost 30,000 cases in the United States each year. Leukemia is treated with chemotherapy.
You don’t lose your hair because of leukemia, you lose it because of the chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is a very strong treatment and kills the cancer and controls it from spreading. Usually, if you’d like, the doctor will let you take your treatment at home, but you often have to go to the clinic. Chemotherapy can be given by pills and liquids, injections, IV (in your vein), and cream in the place were you have cancer. Chemotherapy is a treatment for all cancer but in some cases it's chemotherapy plus an operation. I want to make the people who are undergoing this heavy medical treatment happy and forget about the bad and realize the good.
