Installation instructions for BRIGHT FOCUS (Pat. Pending) sight. IMPORTANT.
INCLUDED
IN KIT
Sight aperture, threaded sight hood, O-ring for hood. SIZE
EQUIVALENTS
ORIENTED FOCUS sight
apertures are marked with a size. The
marked size is the equivalent diameter (in thousandths) of a round sight
aperture with the same total open area, and should give the same image
brightness to the shooter.
Bob
Jones Sizes: #1 = 0.042; #2 = 0.046; #3 = 0.051; #4 = 0.055 INSTALLATION Your existing sight leaf will need a 7/32" clearance hole through it. If you had a hood you unscrewed from the leaf, the threaded hole in the leaf might be the correct size. If you have a standard military sight leaf, you will need to drill out the forward aperture. You want the rear aperture (marked 0-2) to lay flat, so you will still get the witness mark lining up against your windage markings. The best way to do this is to disassemble the rear sight so you can put the leaf in a vise, and use a drill press. Do not attempt to drill out the leaf while it is attached to the rifle, as it will swing forward under the pressure of the drill, not to mention that you don't want metal shavings in your rifle. Again, make sure the rifle is unloaded before starting dis-assembly.
Re-assemble the rear sight, making sure the orientation of the leaf is correct, so the dished cup in the leaf faces to the rear. Insert the new hood supplied in this kit, feeding the threaded section through the existing hole in the leaf from the side with the dished or cupped face, so the O-ring seats in the cup. A threaded section will extend out forward of the sight leaf.
The BRIGHT FOCUS aperture will screw on to this threaded section (note, the aperture screws onto the front of the sight). The hood will need to be installed such that the rectangular opening ends up oriented horizontally when the aperture is tightened. In this orientation, the flat of the hexagonal outer shape should be on the top. NOTE it is not critical that the rectangular opening be absolutely horizontal, but try and get it close. A few degree tilt will not affect its performance.
Screw
on the aperture so it is in the correct orientation with the
rectangular opening in the horizontal direction, as pictured. Tighten
the hood so the O-ring compresses and centers the hood in the sight leaf. NOTE:
When looking through your sight from up close, you will probably not
notice that the opening is rectangular. Hold
your head back 18 to properly judge the sight orientation.
It is not critical that the aperture be absolutely horizontal. Getting it within 5 or so degrees is fine.
